Golden Unicorn opens as the first Chinese restaurant in Tampere, founded by Cantonese immigrants with a vision to share authentic asian flavors.

Faced with growing competition, the brand pivots toward corporate partnerships and enhanced dining experiences.

2010

2020

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Golden Unicorn launches its supermarket ready-made meals, securing continued service during lockdowns.

A fire damages the original city-center restaurant, but thanks to the incredible support from the Tampere community, Golden Unicorn bounces back stronger.

2021

2022

Golden Unicorn expands its cuisine to include Japanese, Korean, and Thai dishes, and begins operating across multiple locations in Tampere.

Launch of a new central kitchen and production facility in Nokia, enabling large-scale food solutions and business partnerships.

Why “Golden”?

In Chinese symbolism, gold represents wealth, harmony, and good fortune. “Golden” reflects not only the quality we aim for in every dish, but also the brightness and warmth we want to share.

Why “Unicorn”?

The name comes from the Chinese Qilin, often called a “Chinese unicorn” for its mythical appearance. Unlike the Western unicorn with a single horn, the Qilin may have two antler-like horns or even none at all.

The Qilin (金麟)

The Qilin is a sacred creature. It has the body of a deer, scales like a dragon, and the hooves of a horse. When it appears, it’s believed to bring harmony and wisdom. It's a sign of peace and balance in the world.
